High Res Wallpapers

I have chosen to upload some of my designs to the wallpaper sharing platform wallhaven. You can see them on my wallhaven profile page. Some of these designs are standard high-definition and some of them are ultra-high-definition. They’re mostly abstract designs that are part of a larger unpublished series. I’ve uploaded wallpapers before to GitHub for the Qtile chameleon project. However, GitHub isn’t really intended for hosting these types of files. Wallhaven however, prefers high quality, high resolution content.

Wallhaven

I’ve decided to use wallhaven for this endeavor because I like the structure of the website. The moderators and admins of the website are active and approachable. They have a bulletin board system. Despite some overwhelmingly prolific genres of content they leave it to the user to filter content with the tag system. Although, sometimes you find AI renders that are tagged incorrectly. The admins are usually quick to handle any issues. It seems like there is an active community on wallhaven. However, I have noticed that the majority of uploads are third parties recycling content.

Original content

Its rare to find artists posting their own original artwork on the platform. The tagging system allows for tagging specific artists. However, I get the impression there are relatively few artist posting original content and tagging themselves compared to the number of people re-uploading work they enjoy. I wish there was a tag or category for original art. However, the lack of promotional atmosphere is refreshing.

Art as a Utility

In addition the purpose of wallhaven is attractive. Which is to provide high quality art to be used as wallpapers. The idea of my art being on people’s displays is exciting. The ubiquitous digital display is a dignified frame where design can live a life of its own.
